Squeal Bar-B-Q (8400 Oak Street; New Orleans; 302-7370), Uptown's smokin' with serious barbecue doing lunch, dinner and late night dining. There is a distinct smoke scent on the air (check out the wood smoker out front). Squeal menu includes the standards - ribs, chicken, brisket and pulled pork; sides of glorious, meaty Collard Greens, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Baked Beans, Corn Maque Choux, and heavenly Roasted Corn Cheese Grits. There are meaty sandwiches served with a side; a hefty half-pound burger, and fresh green salads that can come-as-they-are or gilded with smoked meat. Squeal's Ribs have a succulent "bark" (that's the charred exterior) with a whisp of smokiness that doesn't over-power, it's just right. The beef brisket (from the lean end) also bears a soft, but more pronounced smokiness and comes plated with their excellent, medium-thick, bold sauce. From the starters, there has to be a shout-out for the Crab & Andouille Stuffed Fried Mushrooms - a brilliant texture and taste experience of crunch, chew, creamy and smoky. Also be sure to check out the killer cocktails - ask for the "Glazed Ham" that inclused their house-crafted Bacon-Vodka.
